I have XP Pro installed on one pc. All other pcs have Win98. I have a working Workgroup based network. I do not have a server, nor do I want one. I am using Static IP addresses. My Win98 machines can see the XP machine, but cannot access anything on it.

I go into Windows Explorer -> Network Neighborhood -> XP Computer. Once I click the XP computer, I get a Login window saying: Enter Network Password. You must supply a password to make this connection. Resource: //XPcomputer/IPC$. Password:.

I would like all computers on the network to have full access to all resources. I have been beating my head against a brick wall for a while now, and would really appreciate some help.

Thanks in advance for your thoughtful responce.

the easy way around this is to login on the windows 98 machines as the same name you login the xp machine - this is only the network login screen, this will not change the names of the machines. then if it asks for a password use the same one you login to the xp machine with (if you don't use passwords it wont ask).

i.e if you login under colin's machine as colin and mary's machine as mary on the 98 machines, and login as frank on the xp machine. You would login on all machines as frank - this is the easy way around it, but not practical if you use various profiles. Then you would have to set up permissions on the xp machine.

i hope you can understand this attempt of makeing sense
