Two PCs, both running PCAnywhere 11.

Host is at IP 10.1.1.97, subnet 255.0.0.0
TCP Port is 5641 and UDP Port is 5642, though I don't know if this matters when running inside a LAN.

Remote is at 10.1.1.2 subnet 255.0.0.0
Ports are also set to 5641 and 5642.

When I try to connect I cannot see the host.
I also tried IP 10.1.1.255 for scanning, without luck.

The HOST is waiting for connection at 10.1.1.97

I cannot figure out what is wrong.
I should at least get a login screen or an error message.
I just get time out.

Is the host running any sort of software firewall? Also, run "netstat -an" to see if its actually listening on those ports.

There is no firewall, because I logged in from a laptop locally the other day.

netstat shows
TCP 0.0.0.0:5641 Listening
UDP 5642

10.1.1.97 and 10.1.1.2 are local if the subnet is 255.0.0.0.

What IP were you using on the laptop when you were able to get in?

10.1.1.201 (from DHCP)
The others PCs are static.

From memory the default ports for PCA are 5631 and 5632. Have you changed the port settings on the remote to match those on the host?

Are you able to ping the host machine from the remote?

I like children. If they're properly cooked.

Found the problem...weird.

The laptop has a WAN network connection and LAN network connection.

The LAN Network Connection was disabled.
With WAN network connection ALL network, internet access worked - EXCEPT PCAnywhere.

It took me awhile to figure that out.
