Hi,

We've just had a preconfigured Cisco 2600 Router from UUNET. We've found that although we can reach about 50% of websites ( we cannot bring up others ( I don't think it is a routing issue as the browser brings up the title of the page, it just cannot seem to access the rest of the page. We've plugged a laptop with a static IP straight into the laptop but still no luck.

Anyone had this before?

Thanks.

it could be a routing issue, or some other technical problem with your provider, as i can access all these websites fine...

r u using a proxy server, or is your provider using one..?.. a cache server perhaps.. u may need to find out..

good luck..

Thanks for the reply. Our provider is UUNET, who say that the router, routing tables and DNS are fine. We run a firewall but it's not in the picture because we've tried plugging straight into the router. The strange thing is that we can trace through to pretty much all the bad sites fine we just cannot connect to them. As an example, I can get to BT.COM, but then when it redirects to BT.com/index.jsp, I just get a white page. It doesn't time out, I just sit and watch a spinning logo.

It seems to be an encoding or translation issue as far as I can make out. I might not be able to get to but I can get to
It's really bizarre. If anyone can think of something in common that these sites have:
bt.com, search.yell.com, natwest.co.uk, woolwich.co.uk, alliancecarimports.co.uk, skillsoft.com, my.opera.com (none of these work) - sites that do work:

barclays.co.uk, hotmail.com, opera.com, currys.co.uk, smile.co.uk, yellowbook.com

I'm baffled. UUnet own our router and say that there is no problem. We've tried 3 different browsers and we've also tried Linux. Same on every PC.

:(

How about you make your Linux box a router and see if that solves your problem. If it does, there is indeed some sort of configuration issue with your router, if not, look elsewhere.

Just a shot in the dark...

What's you're connection to UUNET? I've had a simillar issue before (different ISP). I connect to my ISP over an ADSL service using PPPoE. I had to change the mtu to 1492 on the router's dialer1 interface to make it work.

If you can do a ping on the questionable sites just fine, it's not a routing issue. You might want to ask your provider to go check out your connection themselves.

Also, if you can get a copy of the router's config (without divulging any confidential info), post them here.
