On a workgroup of 20 computers, all running Windows XP Pro, I have to set some special access rights for 3 users.
I have done the following:
- disable (uncheck) "Use simple file sharing" in Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/View.
- create 3 identical accounts on the 3 boxes for the 3 users (matching username/password)
- create different shares on the 3 boxes and set access rights for the 3 users

Result:

Two users can access shares conform their access rights but the third user cannot access any of the share, despite that access rights are the same. Beside of these, he cannot access even the shares made on his computer via "My Network Places".

Can anyone help, please?

So has this user even got network connectivity ?

Yes, and this is the strange thing. I can browse network and I can access shares having "Everyone access" on network. Also, the other 2 users with special access rights can access shares on his computer.

Did you set a maximum amount of connections for the share

Have you deleted the user and recreated him on your Xp

Have you tried to share 1 other folder on your machine and see if he can connect to that.

Just some ideas

1. I leave "User limit" field blank. It seems that, on XP Pro, the maximum limit is 10.

2. I renamed the user on his machine (his username was all in uppercase and I made it all lowercase). Also, I deleted the user on one of the other machines and recreated (first using his username all uppercase and then all lowercase)

3. He has 3 folders shared on his machine. Trying to access any of them and also any of the shared folders on the both other machines get him an "access denyed. Contact computer administrator..." message.

None of the other two users have not any problem in accessing shared folders on any machine...

Can you do me a favour.

Add the everyone group to the folder u want him to see.

Whats the result can he connect now ?

It sounds to me as if the NTFS permissions are at odds with the permissions you granted through the creation of the shares in Windows.

As Administrator right-click the drive in My Computer, choose Properties, and look under the Security Tab to make certain the NSFT permissions are set the way you want.
The may show only Administrator at present.

Does the user having problems not have a password on his/her account?
