I can't seem to find the right emulation for an Octel system I'm taking care of. I dial in remotely, and get garbage. I've tried 4410, VT-100, WYSE50, all with no luck. Is there a better emulation out there, or is there something else I am missing?

Thank you,

Good morning marcurie,

I use Procomm Plus and get in fine using:

Terminal WYSE 50
Protocol Zmodem
Data Opts normal options
Data Bits 8
Parity none
Stop Bits 1

Your problem could be the modem on the Octel end. I used to have a sportster but the Octel tech says they can be flaky with Aria 250. He recommends and put in a Boca.

You should try the WYSE 50 as I beleive this is the default setting if the install tech didn't specify a different emulation. You may have gotten the garbage from not having a fresh session connection and trying to swith emulation modes while connected. Assuming that you are using Procomm Plus set it up for a WYSE 50 connection and try again.

Good luck. You can get the terminal emulation type changed to something more common than WYSE 50, such as VT-100 but you would need to restart your Octel system and get to the configuration mode during start up.

I had this done so that I could configure a Voicemail connection in DSA using VT-100 as DSA doesn't have WYSE50 emulation. Works pretty great for normal activity in Octel but not for printing reports. Doesn't go to the printer, just prints to screen. Other than that, happy with convenience of being in DSA for quick administration.

By the way, is there an Octel forum for us that use Octel for a voicemail system. I sometimes need help on some things or capabilities and the cd's suck for searching.

I'll second that req for an Octel (or at least a voice mail) forum. I've got an Aria 250 that does flaky, random misses on msg lights. I can't find any troubleshooting resource anywhere, including Avaya's website.

I've found that depending on the OS I use I get different results depending on the settings I use.
I believe under Windows 2000 this works for me:
9600 baud
7 data bits
Even Parity
1 stop bit

Under all other OS's I use:
9600 baud
8 data bits
No Parity
1 stop bit

Kinda strange but it works!
