I'd like to use the router (netbuilder427) to access my network (192.168.12.xxx), connected to LAN-Port (1) via ISDN-line(s)(port 2/3).

I still entered the IP for the LAN-connector (port1; 192.168.12.2) and for the ISDN-Interface I set 192.168.7.129 ( Port 2), I programmed the SPIDDN1 for path 2.1/2.2.

Then I added an IP-Route for: 192.168.12.0 255.255.255.255 !1

When dialing my ISDN-access number I get access (unfortunately I cannot protect the connection via "login" and "password" ...don't know, if it's possible, or not...)

I get a connect (ppp) and line 2.1 is up. (I can administrate the router via telnet)

Pinging to isdn-port (2) 192.168.7.129 is o.k., also pinging to LAN-Interface 192.168.12.2

But I cannot access my PC's in the network, connected to LAN-port (e.g. 192.168.12.1, ...12.96)...No reply.

logged in into the router (telnet) and pinging to 192.168.12.1, I get reply...

So it seems,that there's a missing a route to connect ISDN-port to LAN.

What's wrong ?! I am not a specialist for 3Com-Routers and I will use it for private purpose only. Is there an additional "trick" neccessary ?

Is it possible to use also "software-cpmpression" for the connection for remote-access-configuration ? At the moment I have to switch it off from the PC, I am trying to log in ?

Last Point: I How can I protect the access via login and password, to avoid "guests" in my network. Thanks for all help I can get, because a lot of "technicans" couldn't help.

Thanks, Mario

Make sure that you actually have routing enabled, the router is a bridge by default. setd -ip rout = e

Also check that you have a routing protocol (rip or ospf) enabled as well if the networks are different. You could also trying using a static route. Make sure that you have any SAP/RIP policies enabled as well as this can cause the ISDN line to stay open even when not in use

thanks for your reply....

I still tried to "update" the router and I think, I did not use the right boot.68k - file. (possibly)

Now I have the following version installed on my "Superstack II - NetBuilder 427":

============================== SHow -SYS VERSion ==============================
SW/NBRI-BF,10.1.0.27, booted on Mon Dec 1 11:37 from local flash
X25 - 3.3
SPMON Version 1.0.11
ISDN: ETSI-1.0 NTT-1.0 NI1-1.0 ATT5ESS-1.0 DMS100-1.0 VN3-1.0 KDD-1.0 AUSTEL-1.0

Copyright 1986-1997, 3Com Corporation
<CR> to Exit =====================>

The system sais, this router acts as an "boundary router", because when I try to activate the router for IP-Routing, i get always an error message, saying : ...cannot be set because router is in "Boundary Routing Mode".

T tell the truth: I don't knw, how to set the router tin IP-Routing mide, or which boot.68k I have to use, to get the router in the right mode.

Actually, I can log onto the router via ISDN-Interface, but I cannot ping to the port or the ethernet interface.

Is there's an otoher software available for the 3C8427C - to act as an normal IP-Router for ISDN to LAN (like an RAS-access), or can I use this firmware to log onto my LAN "behind" the Router.

IP for !1 (LAN) 192.168.12.2
IP for !2 (ISDN) 192.168.7.1

route: 192.168.12.0 255.255.225.255 192.168.12.2 1
route: 192.168.7.0 255.255.255.255 192.168.7.1 1

ISDN is still accepting calls after verifying login and password via ISDN-RAS-connection (win95/98).
Cannot ping to ISDN-port or LAN-port from RAS-connection.

accessing the router via TELNET and PING from the connected private network 192.168.12.x at !1(LAN) is possible.

In my oppinion this can not be a "big" problem. But what is ist ?
I cannot set the router for IP-routing with your command...
