I cannot access my Merlin Messaging system via LAN.

I have Merlin Magix R.2

I'm not sure which Messaging verion I've go, but I've tried both V.1 and V.4 software to attempt the access.

I know the IP/Username/password. If I put any wrong value in, I'm immediately prompted to enter correct information.

If I put the right information in it simply freezes. I lost access about the same time I put in a new DS1 card in the cabinet #2. I've reset dozens of times, but I cannot get in.

Recently, I've changed my SysNumbering from 100-400 to 7200 range. I cannot get into the system voice mailbox from the phone now, either.

Any ideas?

Dial into the Messaging system's admin mailbox (0) - then press 7 to hear the software and firmware release. If the rlease is 1.1 - then you CANNOT - connect via LAN. If the Release is 2.0 or higher - then you CAN. However, the administration software has to exactly match the release - and the different versions are availbale for download from Avaya.com. You may also first need to connect to the RS-232 port on the messaging module to change the IP address settings to either match your LAN or your computer. Instructions for this step are also available at Avaya.com, under Support, documentation, merlin messaging. Just be sure to set the release version to what you have.

I have release 2.0.20

I used to get in. But it just lockes up when I try now. I've tried 6 different computers, even direct connect with cross-over cable.

I'm able to get in through voice-mail port and do programming, but I wanted to use the LAN port. It's easier for me.

I'm about 95% certain that I have the right username and password. It's almost as if the software got corrupt, or that access it locked up. But I've reset the card, the system, the everything I can think of.

I'm using Messager Managment software version 1.00 and 4.00, is that the problem?

You NEED to be using the correct PC admin software version for Messaging Release 2. Go to the Avaya website and download it. Also get the instructions for connecting thru the RS-232 port to correctly set the LAN settings in the messaging module. If those settings are set to some unknown configuration - you will never be able to connect through the LAN port - they need to be set to the default or to a static IP address on your network. Defaulting the Messaging will NOT reset the LAN configuration. That can ONLY be done via Hyperterminal connected to the RS-232 port.

You are awesome Tom.

That was the problem. I switched my computer awhile back and just downloaded the latest version.

So you must have PC Software that matches the version of Messager software on the PBX.

Easy enough. It's working just fine.

Thanks
