Hi,

I'm running SQL Server 2005 on Windows Server 2003.

Accpac is running on version 5.4 with the latest service packs.
I don't usually run Accpac on the server, I just connect to it from the workstation. However today I tried to run it on the server and received the following error when trying to log in:

Cannot access LANPAK.BIN in the SITE directory.

Make sure that the ShareDdata entry in the Windows Registry specified the drive and directory containing the SITE, USER and COMPANY subdirectories and that you have read/write/create access.

I've checked through the Registry entry : the SharedData value is the path to my Data folder. In in are the Site, User and Company folder. All permissions are set.

I cant figure out what's gone wrong. I know it used to work but can't tell when it stopped. Access from the workstations is still fine.

What does your registry say for the Program Directory and Shared Data Directory?

SharedData:
D:\Program Files\ACCPAC\Data
This where the site folder is.

Program:
D:\Program Files\ACCPAC

When you've been trying have other users been in Accpac at the same time?

I tried with and without other users being in Accpac.
Same result.

I think I've run out of straws. Normally the next process would be to connect to your server and look myself.

Oh - one more straw - but it is a short one. Try running the regacc application in the RUNTIME folder. See if it encounters any errors in the log file that it generates or if the issue is resolved once regacc has finished registering all the applications.

Change
SharedData: D:\Program Files\ACCPAC\Data

to
SharedData: D:\Program Files\ACCPAC

and see if that works.

The Site folder may not be where the think it is....

Along those same lines: What does the registry say for shareddata and program files on the workstations?

registry on workstation says the following:

shareddata: \\server\accpac\data
programs: \\server\accpac

Accpac is a shared folder with full permission to users

Did running regacc on the server fix anything or report any errors?

Does the regacc log show errors?

There's another program called System Diagnostic under the Accpac Tools menu (start, programs, ...). Post the results here.

Hi,

regacc doesn't show any relevant error. Below is the only error that showed up, but we are using PJC 5.4:
DllRegisterServer for D:\Program Files\ACCPAC\PM53B\PJCDataWizard.dll failed and returned -2147467259

Output of System Diagnostic see below:

So the only thing that is jumping out at me is that you have UNC for your data paths and drive letters in your registry. Not an unexpected situation for a server. Perhaps try changing your server registry paths to use the UNC paths. (And back up the original.) You won't affect the workstations by doing this.

Another thing to watch for is that the icon you use to start up Accpac must match the registry setting.
For example, if the icon points to D:\Program Files\Accpac\Runtime\accpac.exe then your registry should point to Programs = D:\Program Files\ACCPAC.
If these do not match then you could run into problems.
You do not have to use UNC as suggested, as there is no relationship between where the data is and where the program files are located.
If you are only having problems on the server and not the workstation, then it boils down to permissions on the server.
In 99.999999999999999999% of the time the error you are getting relates to permissions.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

OK, I think I solved my problem.
I believe it was related to EFT Services.

I'm currently running EFT 5.3 on Accpac 5.4 but lately I had problems sending remittance advices via email.

So I've been testing with 5.4. Installed the upgrade on my local machine and converted my test database to work with the new version. This must have somehow confused the server installation?
I did not touch the server installation at all.
Every modification I did was on my local machine which has a full Accpac Installation as well but links to the DATA directory on the server.

Now I've upgraded EFT on the server and I could log on to Accpac on the server straight away.

Anybody has an explanation for that!?

Thanks for all your help!

The explanation is that you mixed different programs pointing to the same data. This is why all (competent) Accpac resellers install programs on the server, not on each workstation.
