Hi helpful people,
I can't get IE to work as a freestanding browser. IE 7 came loaded and is listed in the program listing.
Have tried downloading both 7 (which came on the computer) and 8 from Microsoft site and get the error message "C:\documents and Settings\HP_Administrator|Local|Temporary Internet files|Content.IES\R5527J83\IE8_WindowsXP-x86-ENU[1].exe is not a valid Win 32 application".
Without IE am unable to access Help & support functions from Norton and HP.
Have spent time with techs from AOL with no success. This forum always provides good information so thanks in advance for any help.

I'm not sure I understand. You say IE7 came with the Operating system, then why are you trying to download it?

Perhaps you can explain what the problem is with the help and support files from Norton and HP?

Are they not opening in IE?
Do you use any other browser?

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

Hi and thanks for your response.
I finally accomplished a system restore (had tried this several times before with no success) and IE is working correctly now.
Sorry about my inability to articulate the problem any better, I just don't know the correct terms.
I appreciate your time!
