Windows 2000 Exchange server with Outlook 2000 on desktops. When users log in in the mornings and d-click on Outlook 2000, about 95% of staff get the error that the outlook server is unavailable and they need to click on retry, work offline or help. If they click on Retry Outlook opens up no problem and they can carry on as normal. They can ping the exchange server and no network connections have been lost. The TCP/IP config is the same on all PCs. Any ideas please?

sorry jaksen121. you've lost me...

When you connect to the Exchange server via Outlook 2000 it is looking for the servers DNS name. Make sure you have DNS setup correctly (right info for the Exchange server). AJ

I agree this looks like a DNS issue. First are you using AD version of DNS or Bind Version or some type of combination of both. If using AD version is it Active directory enabled. Are all your clients using same DNS.

Ideally you are using AD Version of DNS with all your clients using same dns if not how you have forwarding records set up could have a major impact. Outlook clients use DNS to find the Global Catalog server to help in logging in if it is having trouble finding Global Catalog server you might see your type of problem
