I changed the IP address on a standalone Baystack 450-24-T. After i changed the IP, I could ping the switch once i placed it in the new network. I noticed however that i cannot telnet to the switch now. I cannot also access the switch via console and was able to perfectly before. Has anyone experienced this problem before. Is there a way to hard reset a BS 450-24T? Any input is appreciated.

Console access via serial port should be unaffected, telnet may be blocked outside the local network if the gateway does not match the IP.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

I am connecting directly to the switch with an ethernet cable and with a console. I took the top board out of the switch and noticed the serial plug on the board. I hooked a serial plug 10 pin to db9 to the board. I can from there watch it boot. It passes all the tests ok. It comes and I can see "Hit Cntrl-Y to enter blah blah," I hit cntrl-y several times to no avail. *** Note I have tryed just about every key combination you can think of. Its like the switch hangs after it is booted. All 24 ports communicate to other ports ok. So the switch seems to be working fine. It just seems to have lost management.

for reasons I never understood shift control Y works for me, are you using a terminal emulator other than hyperterm if you have Windows 2000 or XP?

I have used the hyperterm with XP and from 98 as well as what i usually use SecureCRT which worked fine before i changed the ip. There has to be some way to reset the switch to defaults physically. Maybe some kind of char seq @ boot maybe? This one has me stumped. Never had any kind of trouble with it before. I have even tryed another cable as well as for giggles ataching a rollover cable and adapter to enter my cisco equip with no problems.
