Hello, I am an Engineer that has been tasked with trying to come up with a part number system for our company that I have been working for 6 months. They have been slowly implementing Mas90 for the last year. The part number system has been all over the place! We are a manufacturing company and we make our own products. Now the question, can you search by descriptions of item ID'sin Mas 90? Or do we need to come up with a part number system that is descriptive? Hope that made some sense???

Hello,

You can search by description and it will bring up the corresponding id. Just open the drop-down box when you bring up the search window.

A couple of suggestions on the challenges you face:

1) You have 15 characters to use for inventory item codes. Be consistent across your idents. Meaning decide from the start if you will use all 15 characters. Whatever you choose stick to it

2) Segment your ident so that each group of characters provides some meaning and communicate this numbering scheme to all users. eg. the first two characters represent if the item is a raw material or finished good, the next 3 characters represent the product line, type of job, the next 8 characters describe the item, and the last 2 characters provide variations on the item etc.

3)Limit who can add new idents

Hope this helps
