Is it possible to restart Exchange Server without rebooting the server?

I had a power failure and my data centre shut down. My exchange servers were both restarted before my 2 AD servers and I've got MSExchangeDSAccess-2104 errors in the event log. When the AD servers came back, exchange would still not accept connections.

I ended up rebooting the exchange server, but im curious if there is another way (i.e. "Restart Exchange Service" task)

you can create a small batch file for this :

net stop MSExchangeES /y
net stop MSExchangeIS /y
net stop MSExchangeMTA /y
net stop MSExchangeSA /y
net stop WinHttpAutoProxySvc /y

afterwards, for starting the services again use the net start commands...

Regards,

Peter
