I am fed up enough with Vista and Office 2007 to downgrade to XP and Office 2003 - heard that before ??!!

However, before I take that step I need to be aware of any issues when exporting my Office 2007 PST file and importing it into Office 2003 - going from 2003 to 2007 was painless enough but do you know of any reasons why it should not work from 2007 to 2003

If, in fact, there are incompatibility problems that mean that the export-import option is not viable, then what should be my Plan B - and typing in all my contacts and calendar items in NOT an option !!!

Look forward to reading your advice

just a thought
you need to open outlook 2003 and see what it's import options are. then go to 2007 and see if any export options match. probably a .txt file or something generic.

I'm not an Outlook person but I'm pretty sure that the format of the PST changed in 2003 (to not have the 2GB limit that was in 2002), and did not change again in 2007, so you should be able to just save the PST from 2007 and use it in 2003.

However, whilst I understand your frustrations, I think you should perhaps consider going forward to Windows 7 rather than back to XP. Doing a fresh install is a breeze, and updates, althouth potentially very slow (many hours on some machines), do work well, I am told. I have found Windows 7 significantly better than Vista and will be upgrading my XP machines to it soon.

Outlook is generally felt (and I agree) to be one of the better 2007 Office apps. What is it you don't like? If you don't like the other Office apps, you can always downgrade them and keep Outlook 2007. I am not a lover of the Ribbon, but, again, I would ask what you don't like. The Ribbon is here to stay and you may find Office 2010, when it comes out sometime next year, addresses some of your issues. If your issues are to do with the new features that don't work well, or don't work at all, again you may find that Office 2010 will address them.

Enjoy,
Tony

In 2007 you can always create a new personal folder that is Office 97-2002 compatible and then drag items from the 2007 personal folder to Office 97-2002 one.
