Yes i always thought you couldnt and have told people so.

Ive had 2 people today doing it and it not working, i just wanted to check i was correct in my advice.

I have seen one thread to day on another forum somewhere to do with sql saying as long as the msde is a named instance (contact store is) it will work (but it doesnt bigtime, it hangs when installing the msde)

When i read the following i think it's possible.

6. Click Next>.

The Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) will be installed automatically. It will be located in your Program Files path, as recommended by Microsoft. Since the ContactStore installation program installs a named instance of MSDE ("ContactStore"), it can co-exist with any other installation of MSDE you may already have.

It works! Now if only I could remember what I did...

I honestly would have said you can, but if it doesn't work that's probably a good indication that you can't! I'm pretty sure you can have MSDE and SQL 2005 Express on the same box.

You cannot install MSDE AND MS SQL on one and the same server,

You can use the same SQL server on a single server.
First install SQL, second install CCC and then install Contact Store.
I have a number of such installations.

Surely the best place for the Contact store software is on the VM Pro PC
which should be a standalone PC & certainly NOT on a customers database server PC

Ha, if it is a server with 4 dual2Core processors and 16Gb memory i dare to do that and even more...

Daring guy that Intrigrant. Hey you never answered my question about interfacing with customers. I think you have now.

I possibly would as well integrant, But I can imagine the responce from Avaya.

much easier to keep them happy & have the IPO stuff on its own PC - it also makes remote maintanence easier (customers do not seem keen to let me into their servers :) )

From poking around on the Microsoft support site it looks like you can have MSDE and SQL server 2000 installed on the same PC. Regarding MSDE and SQL Express on the same machine, someone on the MS forums says that it works, but obviously that isn't definite.

I'm a bit sketchy on Contact Store installation, but it will use some kind of customised MSDE installer, the problems may be caused by the custom settings (instance name, target directory, etc).

Disregard what it says on the MS forums.

Contactstore and SQL2005 (any flavour, server, Lite etc) DO NOT work when installed on the same PC / Server.

Avaya do not support this configuration. see Tech tip 138

Take Care

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Who mentioned SQL2005?, they asked about SQL & MSDE.
And it is possible to run CCC, VM Pro and ContactStore on the same PC using the same SQL( 2000!) application as long as each application use its own named SQL instance.
SQL 2005 is only supported for CCC 5.0.43

I asked about sql 2005.

I have a server running sql 2005 for something unrelated to Avaya.

They want contact store on that machine, contact store can only use msde.

Forget if it is right or wrong to put it on this machine or if my granny would approve.

Can you have sql and contact store on the same machine as msde.

Im going with Mr Knight and am saying no from now on.

Thanks.

I had this problem today and was on the phone with tier 3 support. You cannot install contactstore and CCC on the same box as they both use MSDE. The only way is to install them on two seperate boxes or install the full sql server and migrate CCC and contactstore to SQL.

Whoever told you that is talking parp.

You can have CCC and contact store on the same machine if they are both using msde because the contact store instance of msde is a named instance so it is differentiated from the CCC instance.

I know this for a fact and have it set up like this here.

I am talking msde and SQL.

My issue was it wasn't letting me install msde for CCC saying an instance is already installed.
