Is this possible.
I have my own test server running Win2k Advanced Server, but I need to learn Novell. I'd like to put it on this same server. Is this possible, do i need a second hard drive or a separate machine altogether. I have the 3 user version of Novell that comes with the netware 5 resource kit.

Thanks
Shari

Machine is
amd athlon 700mhz
192mb ram
40 gb hd.
cd-rom
linksys nic card.

The way to dual boot is the same as if you were dual booting W2K and DOS.. So setup the dual boot with the following:

- DOS FAT16 partition - For novell startup files. It can be small, but make it 500MB or so and you'll have plenty of room.

- Free Space for NetWare partition. 2GB is minumum, but with the 40GB you have, you should probably make it 10GB or so that you have room to play with the extra components.

Make sure the dos partition is FAT16, not fat32. And preferably use DOS, not a WIN95 boot config.

Hi,

You could try loading the server in stages to determine the area the server is have problems at.

The commands are:

Loadstage 1
loadstage 2....etc. There are 5 stages.

Once you determine which stage the problem is at, do a "list stage #" to determine what loads during that stage.

hey marvin,

thanks for the advice.
i think i will put a 2nd hd on this server and do it that way. my first hd also has exchange server, sql server running so a 2nd hd is necessary. all i need is a new power supply for my server and time to start experimenting.

thanks.

I have it running like this on a test PC at home, no problems with it at all. I dual boot into DOS (for NetWare) and W2k Advanced Server

Hi,

Hey sorry guys, I guess I replied to the wrong post. ooops

One other thing you could try, provided that your test server has plenty of memory, would be to install VMWare or VirtualPC on your 2K Advanced server & have an instance (or multiple instances) of the 5.1 server running in a virtual machine

there is an updated tid on cool solutions as well to get vmware tweaked to work with 5 and 6

runs sweet

VMware is awesome.

And when you say can NWADMIN32 run from it, I assume you are asking if it can be run from a server running inside of a VmMware winodw..

Yes.
