Is it possible just to trash the ldf file? I've got one thats 21 gigs in size and I really need the disk space! thanks

Set the database into simple recovery mode and shrink the file.

Otherwise detach the database, delete the file and sp_attach_single_file_db

In both cases take a backup first.

DTS can be used in a similar way.
Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy.

Do you have a maintenace plan on the DB? If you are regulartly backup your DB and truncating your transaction logs this won't happen.
