Using FMP 6.0, is there an easy way to combine several databases (layouts and fields) into one?

If not, would upgrading to FMP 7.0 help at all?

Thanks!

Mike

If I understand you question the answer is no. Version 6 only allows 1 table per file. Multiple layouts and multiple fields yes, but only 1 table. However, files can be related to each other in v6.

In version 7 you can have up to 1,000,000 tables in 1 file. And of course, multiple layouts, fields, etc.

When you convert v6 files to v7 they convert to 1 table per file.

Does this answer your question?

If you are using the same fields, you can import the data and layouts from one db to another. Is that what you mean?

Depends...

with a relationship and a Set Field comment you can set whatever field in whatever file/table to whatever value (more or less)....

So, in lower than 7 you can link files, in 7 you link tables.
In lower than 7 you put files together to have an application, in 7 you can have your application in 1 file (but also in different files)

Mike, The short answers are 'No' and 'No'.
Given files A, B, C and D, you could pick the file with the largest number of fields, Then re-define the fields from all the other files in that one. Let's assume it's B. You need to define in B all the fields in the other files. Then copy the layouts with simple copy and paste. I love that word 'simple'; it is but it is a pain in the ass.

Cheers,
Paul J.
