Can you change task dates without changing the dates of resources?

When I change the Start and Finish dates of a task, the dates of the resources change automatically. Is there a way to change the Start and Finish dates of a Task without automatically changing the dates of individual resources? The reason I want to do this is as follows:

I may have a person that can only work on specific dates. However, I may want to Start the task earlier or end it later of which other people will be working on it. When I change the start and finish date of the task, I don't want the date of the resource to change.

Can I do that?

I hope this reply is not too late for you. What you want to do is a "resource assignment". Go to the "Task Entry" view then right mouse click in the assignment form and select "resource schedule". This will give you columns for work, start and finish by resource. You can then establish the assignements as you want them to occur.
