Hi!

We have tried to restore a Edge 1000 with a BCM 200 Backup.

The version 3.6 was on these two BCM's.

Now the Edge 1000 don't start.

We have put the Ghost of the HD we have taked before and we get the same result.

Maybe the MSC cards are corrupted...

Any ideas????

Did you try reloading the etiquette to the MSC from the command line?

Did you initialise the universal profile?

I would log in via the serial port and run through the initialisation procedure. If you do not have the correct serial cable. You could enable the telnet server and telnet into the system.

The system will prompt for a username,Domain name and password.

Username ee_admin
Domain
Password PlsChgMe!

Select 1 for Platform Initialisation Menu.

Select 1 for Initialize Menu.

Select 1 for Initialize Universal Profile

The Profile process will then check to see what load is currently on the MSC card.

After about 2 minutes the screen will prompt you to select the MSC Core

Select Profile applicable to you. The BCM will reload with the new profile this can take up to 90 mins. During this time the BCM will reboot a number of times

Hope this makes sense.

mrmarshall, I have a MSC card from a BCM 200 that cannot display a serial number from the command line. I will try the procedure you listed. If anyone has an idea on bringing this back to life please chime in.
Since it is dead I will gladly try anything that is suggested short of explosives.

Should I keep the rest of the BCM 200 or chew it up for parts? The cheapest I can find another card is $1650.00 and that price is just a few hundred dollars short of new.

Tried mrmarshall's technique.

Select 1 for Platform Initialisation Menu. Works up to here.

Select 1 for Initialize Menu. System hangs, paints bcm 3.6 banner and never loads menu. System message on choice three. "Not available no firmware".

Anyone smell toast?

This was a working system. Currently on the bench with no modules installed. I think I read on this forum that there is a particular chip that holds the MSC card identity.
It seems that chip is gone.

I tried the etiquette upload and then followed mrmarshall's procedure. I was able to proceed. I got a MSC card type unknown message at one point. It looks ok but when trying to write the zip files at the end of the procedure I get a cute little musical scale and it goes through the write procedure, over and over.
For no good reason I tried swapping out the PEC card with no results. This is not a desparate situation, just an expensive one. Do you think it is worth my while to keep what may prove to be a damaged chassis and purchase a new MSC card?

Hard to say the BCM 1000 is limited by a number of factors. Old MSPEC cards old motherboard, slower processor,Less Ram,Older hardware,Less MBM slots etc. But the MSC card is cheaper than the new system.

raretou's original question was about a BCM 1000

NARSBARS added a new question instead of starting a new thread.

raretou hasn't replied back yet.

NARSBARS are the LED's flashing???

Acewarlock,
You are right, I should have started a new thread.
Previous to the Etiquette load everything except the power light flashed together. After the upload the power, HD, fan and temp show OK everything else flashes.

I cannot see this being anything else but a dead MSC card.
Since the card cannot even provide a system ID I am guessing it is fried.

Correction,
Everything except the fifth light (#2) is solid. The HD light flickers intermittently to show activity. Every few minutes the system plays a short set of set of musical tones.
