Hi all, we are using CE 10 and were running out of space in our production environment [not enough space on server].
So,We want to delete "Output" Folder or alteast its sub-folders from filestore which creates some space.
Will it create any problems while we publish reports from Management Console or while usign existing reports?

We do not want to delete any reports [just their instances (history)]

Any help is greatly appreicated.
Thank you.

This is not a good idea - if you delete files under the Filestore/Output folder, it will produce errors in Crystal Enterprise when users try to pull up historical instances of reports.

The better way to do this is to delete instances via the Crystal Management Console - this will remove the instances from being listed in Crystal Enterprise and also delete the corresponding files from the Output folder.

You may also want to consider:
1) Using the "Limits" function in the CMC to only retain a specified # of historical instances. If you have some larger reports scheduled to run multiple times a day this can add up quickly.
2) Moving your FileStore location off of your app server and onto network file storage where it will be easier to increase the space it's allocated.

Thank you for your reaponse. Like you said, it might be a bad idea to delete physical OUTPUT Folder [or sub folders]. I like the idea of deleting instances from CMC if it takes care of all physical folders by it self. So, where in CMC I can do that?

Thanks for all your help.

You can manually delete instances from within the Infoview itslef by clicking History and selecting and deleting instances, and I think that the same thing applies while in the CMC by going into the History.

If you are so close to runnin out of space that the miniscule amount of space a folder (not files) itself takes up matters, you're in desperate need of a hardware upgrade.

I hear you. We need to upgrade our server H/w, which is what we are doing now. But Since I was not sure what will happen if i delete output folder [i can guess but] want to make sure from experienced people.
So, there is no way of going to CMC Admin and click a button that deletes instances for all the reports out there?

Thanks again,

I think you should consider gortuk's 2nd option. This will eleviate the storage space issue and not force you to have to delete files and folders.

If you need to delete instances across folders, I suggest you open up the admin launchpad, and look in the Administrative Tools box on the right.
Click Instance Manager and log in with an account that had Administrator rights.
Once in, you can pull instances by status and then choose to delete them.

Brian, thanks for your reply. I'll try that. That should be better than deleting all the isntances one by one.
