First time poster and looking for an answer to save me masses of tedious work.
Not sure if this is a Query or Relationships question ...
I have one main Index table with about 1150 entries and about 20 fields per each entry.
I have taken the Main Index table and divided it into 27 smaller tables by their subject matter - each entry and fields carry the exact duplicate information.

I am wondering if it is possible to update/change a field in the main Index table and for that same exact update/change to "automatically" take place in it's corresponding sub-table. If so - how is it done?

I am a total novice to Access (greener than fresh moss). I have read relationships/queries and dabbed with it but after a dozen tries and reading the queries discriptions have had no success. So I am not really sure if this can be done or if this is possible with MS Access or I should try using another database application that could better accomplish this.
I have asked this question before but this seems to be the impossible, does anyone have any suggestions?
Cheers.

You may try to play with Referential integrity options in the Relationships window.

Hope This Helps, PH.

Yes it would be possible to do this through forms using VBA code and or SQL; but the real issue here is why you have split the table this way.
I'm sure you will get the same response from everyone here - one table is easier to manage than 27 tables. You will find everything you want to do hundreds of times more difficult with multiple tables than with one single table.

Every time you ask a Q this will be thrown back in your face.

You should get a basic Access intro book and look at queries. Queries are the heart of Access and you will find that almost everything you want to do will involve a query.
Queries on a single table really are easy to put together and you should not be put off by the query grid. It's input at the top and output at the bottom. And make friends with the first toolbar button (View) so that you get used to switching between datasheet and design view.

Ooooo
I was so hoping you had something... but no it still didn't do the trick.
Thanks, you're the first to ever answer with any type a suggestion. I have tried on another forum (Utter Access) but I think I have a real stumper or the impossible.
Cheers.

For example ...
I have worked in a dbase of 132.000+ entries.
They represented citizens from 25 different EU (European Union) countries.
Only 3 of those entries were from Estonia.
When I wanted some info or to update all entries or a print-out of those 3 from Estonia or to send that info over to a colleague -
from experience, I personally found it so much easier to work in a dbase of 3 entries than with the Main dbase of 132.000+ entries.
The difference of working with or updating/changing are so much easier and cause for errors are greatly diminished.

I have never set this up myself so I was looking for a bit of "off the cuff" online instant help to just get me started.
Cheers.
