Hi

I am trying to understand some one else's VB code (which is hard core vb customization).

can u guys tell me any books for reference

What type of features does the program deal with?

When I was trying to do that I just searched my library's database for "visual basic 6" and general terms for the type of program.

There are a lot of good online tutorials which explain aspects of code. If by chance your program deals with MsComm or serial communication I can send you a lot of links and book titles.

Programming Visual Basic 6 by Francesco Balena

I have found this book very good and it goes into more detail than I have found in any other visual basic 6 book. Most of them just deal with forms, text boxes and all that other basic stuff. This book really goes deep into classes, ADO programming, a bit of API and user controls. Not a book for beginners but if you know a bit this book will take you to the next level.

'It would be better if you asked this in VB.NET forum. VB6 is fling away from this world.'

Why?

I assume that if he asked the question in the VB6 forum then the code would be in VB6 and not .NET. Therefore he would need a VB6 book and not a .NET book.

What i'm tring to say is that after some years (at 2008 or 2011) there won't be any support of this product. Of cource even in 2050 you'll still be able write apps in vb6.
Things you should write tons of code are ready for use in .NET

If someone do not know vb6 he is able to learn .NET. The reason is that: VB.NET is NOT vb7; it is now fully OO (Object Oriented)

But the app is in VB6!!

Surely you're not suggesting he re-writes it in .NET!

some one else's VB code

Given that the original poster is trying to understand someone else's code, a vb.net book won't really help that much. I do agree that if someone wants to learn programming, it would make sense to learn vb.net, not vb6. This is not the case here, therefore the vb.net discussion is not appropriate.

I have quite a collection of vb6 books, some good, and some not so good. In my opinion, the advanced VB books are specialized. I've seen good books on graphics, database programming, and API (to name a few).

I humble suggest that coolgoose7 would get a better response if he/she indicated the type of 'hard core vb' that he is trying to understand.
