On a Friday I want to do a complete backup job on one tape (say SQL and Exchange backup). Then on Saturday I want to do another complete backup job (say File shares, etc).

Then between Monday and Thursday, would like to do Incremental backups for both jobs on one tape (would have enough space on tape).

Was thinking say start one at 8pm and the other at 12am (should be enough time).

Using Veritas 8.6.

Thanks in advance.

When your setting up your job you can choose Full Backup, Incremental Backup etc. - you can also choose the Day's you want these backups to run.
Set up 3 new jobs One for Friday and choose Full Backup option, inculde your selection for sql only and set it to run on Friday's only, Set up the Second job for Saturday to run only on Saturdays using full backup option and choose the files you want to backup and Set the third job to run Sunday, Monday Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday and Choose Incremtnal Backup and your file selections.

If you want to force BE to use specific tapes, you can create partitions. This is taking your library slots and separating them into specific partitions. Read BE's help on setting up partitions.

Thanks SQLBill, yes I have set up partitions and this is the way I am using the backup jobs to use a specific partition.

Just thought it would be a more automated way fo doing it than the manual way :(

gmonahan, will give you a star when I get it to work.

What do you mean more automated way? You set up partitions, you create the jobs you need and everything from there on is automated.

I mean the setup of the backup jobs. Setting up partitions was fairly automated and so is scheduling. Just was not sure of how Veritas dealt with Incrementals for 2 different jobs.
