I have set up an email account in Outlook 2007. I can send email but am not receiving email. If I test the account settings/connection it comes back as successful. I am completely lost! If I use a web client provided by the ISP to check emails they're there. Any ideas please?

Thanks

OK, I am now 100% sure it's not Outlook causing the problem. I have set up a different email account in Outlook where the domain and mail servers are hosted by some other hosting company. It's a similar setup where there is a webmail facility as an alternative to Outlook. I received the emails into Outlook for this account straight away without any issues. I tried it with POP and IMAP and both work.

This leads me to believe that it has to be some setting on the hosting side that is causing the problem. I only started using webmail after my harddrive failed. Now having installed a new drive and Outlook I want to move away from the poorly built web client and back to Outlook. May be I need to somehow disable the webmail. I will look into this. The thing is when I switched to webmail from Outlook I never changed any settings, my emails were already accessible from there. So I am still confused. I'll post the solution when I eventually get there, but I am getting closer.

Thanks.

Usually (and I've NEVER seen an exception), you can use the web client and the desktop client (Outlook/Outlook Express/Thunderbird, etc) simultaneously or alternate days using them and there are not settings or issues.

The only thing would be pulling mail off the server with your desktop client and then it would "disappear" from the web client. But you can't even pull mail!!

I'd ask your mail provider for some guidance to see if there is anything strange about their settings.

You can almost always use multiple clients simultaneously. The only real caveats are that if one client downloads the mail and doesn't leave the mail on the server, the other client won't see it.

The problem is solved folks. I recreated the mailbox and assigned a new password. It makes no sense but it works now. In hindsight I should have done this earlier considering how long I have spent trying to debug the issue. Still completely bizarre.

Now that I know what fixed it. The only thing I would suspect is as 58sniper suggested in his last contribution. Who would that client be is anyones guess and does concerns me, but at least its resolved now.

Thank you all very much for the very useful tips you have given.

Well I am facing the same problem. But changing the password did not work for me.

In my case the account was working fine. but i got the message about curruption of the .ost file. So I repaired the ost file with Inbox repair tool - Scanpst.exe

After repair I came to know that I am not getting any new messages. I tried to reduce the size of my ost file as it was 2.7GB. But that didn't help either.

I am frustated now as I am trying this from last 2 days. And the mails are very important.

Thanks for your time.

You should always start a new thread and not piggyback on another thread. Your issue is completely different now since you had to run the inbox repair tool.

Try to create a brand new profile and see if that will send/receive. Then IMPORT from the old profile any messages that you need.

Sorry about continuing in this thread. I will create one now.

I have tried creating the new profile, but didnt work.

Thanks
