Hi,

I'm having a problem receiving mail with Mercury /32. I'm trying to receive mail on my own domain. The problem is i can't receive mail from outside my domain. ex if i send mail from test@mydomain i can receive it but from test@hotmail.com i can't. The mail gets returned after 2 days with the message: Connection Refused. I can't seem to figure out the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings,

First, try to telnet to port 25 on your server from outside your network. If that doesn't work, then you likely have a firewall issue. Make sure port 25 on your firewall is unblocked. It's also possible that your upstream provider is blocking port 25. If you use cable or DSL, that is a definite possibiilty.

If you can telnet in, turn on session logging for MercuryS and send yourself an email. Then look at the log and see if there's any relevant information.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for you're reply but i can send e-mail i just can't receive it from outside my domain. I have already tried to telnet to my port 110 (POP3) this works (also from outside). So i don't understand why i can't receive mail from outside my domain.

As I said, from OUTSIDE your network, try to telnet to your server on port 25 (SMTP), not port 110(POP3). You need to find out if the problem is between your server and hte internet, or within the server itself.

If I understand your problem correctly, if I were to send you email, you would not receive it. That means that either my server cannot communicate with your server, or your server doesn't know what to do with the email once it gets it.

To see if outside mail servers can connect to your server, try telnetting in from outside. Again, telnet to port 25 from outside your network. If you want to give me your domain name, I can try to do it.

Assuming that reasching the server is not a problem, that's what the logs are for. Session logging will tell you a lot. Try it. When I say send yourself an email, I mean from OUTSIDE your domain.

I'm sorry I understood you're awnser wrong. My provider has blocked port 25 so I use mailrelay on port 26. I can telnet to it from the outside. I turned on the session logging and going to check the logs now. Thanks again for you're reply.

It doesn't make any logs. So i presume that my server can't be found. Could this be because my provider blocked all access on port 25 ? I have setup the relay option to port 26 I can telnet to this from outside my router. I can telnet to port 110 from outside. I have setup my MX records. Does anyone have a clue what te problem is ?

TIA
