Hello,

I am trying to use samba to connect my .net server and my red 8.0 client. I have gotten to the point where i can see the .net shares from redhat. i can see the redhat shares from network places but i cannot open shares from either direction. downloaded samba24hc13.pdf and began going through the trouble shooting steps. when i attempt to connect locally to the samba share using smbclient -L Moreau -N i get the following.

smbclient -L Moreau -N
added interface ip=192.168.1.5 bcast=192.168.1.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
error connecting to 192.168.1.105:139 (No route to host)
Error connecting to 192.168.1.105 (No route to host)
Connection to Moreau failed

the added interface is the correct address but samba seems to take a different route to the shares.

How do I correct this ?

here is the smb.conf

i am new to samba

i Think i asked an intelligent question and posted the required information.

i was pointed to this forum by a respected friend and was told that it was his best source of information while he got samba up and running.

i was hoping for a response

now i am wondering if my question stupid

no big deal ... if i am being a dumb ass then please let me know

Thanks

Not a stupid question, not being a dumb ass, just need to be patient. Samba forum doesn't see as much traffic as some of the others.

Not sure I understand the problem. Is 'Moreau' your Samba server, or one of the other computers on the network? Is the .105 address correct, or is it assigned to another computer?

The error message stikes me as more of a TCP/IP error than a Samba error. What happens if you try to ping Moreau? Also try to ping by address. Try ping 127.0.0.1. When reporting results, be specific. Ping returns several differnt messages, they all mean something different.

Not sure at all here, just kinda thinking out loud.

Maybe also try trimming down your .conf file.
Just put in the essential stuff, leave out everything that is supposed to default.
(When you post that much here, me thinks nobuddy wants to read it !)
Realise that I haven't really answered your Q, but this is still supposed to be helpful.
Yes, post Q's here, and be patient. This forum works.

you could try:
Code:
smbclient -L Moreau -N -I 192.168.1.5
and see if it helps to specify an IP address.

Ok I am going to take your suggestion and repost with a less of a smb.conf
