Can report display first page with records ?

Hi I am using CR XI and access 2000.

I have report that displays the first page after it has read all the 255 pages of the report. The report will hour glass till all the pages are read.

Is there a way to display the first page with results so the user will be happy to see the records immediately and the report can read the pages in the background?

Depends on the report.

One hing that forces all rows to be read is page n of m because m needs to be determined.

There are numerous factors though, such as aggregates, sortation, grouping...

Thanks for the response.. I do have Page N of M in my report. I have grouping and sorting too. I need all these in the report.

What changes/modifications do you recommend to show the first page ?

Hi,
Remove the page n of m ..It will always delay display until it can complete the m part...

Also, if you can, do not show a Group Tree to start..

I definitely need to show Page N of M. I am not showing any Group Tree in the report.

In that case your users will have to wait...

( This behavior changed between 10 and XI - although when the first page showed up quickly in 10, moving past page 1 took aditional time..)

That was not the answer I was expecting ;-(

Hi,
I am sure they have..It is not 'really' a problem just an annoyance ( and not an enhancement from V10)...

In V10 sometimes users were misled that the report had completed since they could see output, but if they tried to Print or Export, the extra time it took was confusing ( and sometimes caused errors)...The actual time for a copmpleted report is not very different, just the user's perception differs when they can see something.

( In V10 the page n of m was displayed as Page 1 when displaying that early first page, and switched to n of m when it had the total..)
