I'm in the UK and have a BT Broadband conecction which is ADSL. Instead of using the BT Modem that came with it I'm using a Belkin F5D7630-4A ADSL wireless router. I have an email account with pipex. When I first got ADSL I found out that BT do not let you send via pipex for some reason. I had to change my smtp settings in outlook to use mail.btopenworld.com but my incoming address stays as pop.dial.pipex.com. I also have to pay £2 for the service!! That worked fine on the BT modem. Now i'm using the belkin it recieves mail fine but it sends to some addresses and not others! I rang belkin they told me to change the routers host name to mail.btopwenworld.com. I managed to send an email to an address @incepta-mi.com but cannot send to @springboardplc.com. I know the address works fine as i have received mail from them. What is the diffrence with the addresses?!

I'm stuck in a loop where bt tell me to ring belkin and vice versa!!!

I'll be greatful for any help!

Cheers

Mark

Are you sending the mail from your mail client to mail.btopenworld.com or your router? I can't see what difference the router would make. Try telnet on port 25 to the BT mail server from behind the router and let us know if it works. If you can get to the BT mail server and it accepts the mail then it's not down to your router.

When you try to send an email to that address, are you getting an error message or a bounce message? Does the mail client send the message to the server okay? Does the mail server give you an error?

Chris.

I'm sending the mail to mail.btopenworld.com.

I have noticed one thing, every time I’ve made changes to the router settings and saved, I am able to send the email, which wouldn’t send before! It seems to stop working after a couple of hours, when I look at the router it hasn’t reset or anything.

I can telnet.

The weird thing is why does it work fine with the BT modem but not with the belkin!

So when it stops working, what error do you get? Is it just that the email client can't reach the mail server? If so then you have a router problem.

Chris.

Yeah it's just says sending, then fails as if it weren't online but at the time i could browse the internet fine.

Try changing the outgoing server settings to the IP address of the mail server. Some routers have problems using FQDN of mail server.
I never thought that would work until looking at a DLINK article and they tell you to do that if having problems and have actually had it work on several different routers.

The only problem with that though is if the ISP changes the IP of the mail server or puts your account on another mail server.

Hello,

You may want to double check with BT regarding your account because BT have made alot of changes regarding btopenworld. Mostly to do with spam you may well find that your account(s) out going smtp setting should now reflect mail.btconnect.com

Additionaly you may need to register the pipex account with BT for open relay issues.
