I can ping my router but cannot access the buit-in GUI setup page in the router, alltrough I see the LANT and LANR lights flashing. It is a flowpint 2025 router for DSL. I can access the router with hypertrm trought the com ports, asign a IP address and new password, activate the DHCP but can't reach the router with the quick install program downloaded from Can anyone help me out here ? Thank you very much, David.

David-Belgium,

Dumb question, I know, but I have to ask. Have you tried accessing the web management interface using a web browser? I'm not familiar with the configuration manager but you should be able to do all configuration using either the command line interface (CLI) or the web management interface (WMI).

The Old Man

Yes I have tried to reach the router trough the WMI with IE6, but it does result in "The page cannot be displayed". Can you suggest me a solution ? thanks.

David,

Is there a chance, in trying to configure the router, that you inadvertantly changed the http port being used? Download and install Languard Network Scanner from GFI from here:

Run a scan on the IP address you set for the router and look at what port is open for http. Then try pointing your browser at that address.

If I understand the Configuration manager, it uses SNMP to communicate with the router. That would use ports 161/162. When you scan, see if those ports are open.

Are you running any personal firewall software? That could be blocking ports also.

The Old Man

Dear friend,

Thank you for your kind advise. I tried scanning ports with GFI LANguard and resulted in:
Community string : public
Done sending, waiting for responses ...
ICMP sweep ... (PING !)
Done sending, waiting for responses ...
NETBIOS discovery ...
Done sending, waiting for responses ...
SNMP discovery ...
The router normally uses port 161
NO RESULT at this time...
Any other thing I can try ?
thanks, David.

Is the IP address you assigned the router with the rightsubnet mask ? Otherwise I dont think it will see it across the network.

the command line is: eth ip addr 192.168.254.254 255.255.255.0 is that OK ?

I'm not really a network wizard, but that would work fine I think, as long as your workstation IP's were 192.168.254.*.

David,

I may have violated one of my cardinal rules by assuming something that was not correct. Thank you, Grenage, for noting the IP address issue.

I assumed from your original post that your workstation is in the correct subnet since you were able to telnet to the router. In rereading, however, I noted that you can hyperterm using the com port. This has nothing to do with the IP.

What is the IP address of the workstation you are using to access the router? You have set the router's IP to 192.168.254.254 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. In order to ping, access the WMI, do the network scan, etc. your workstation has to have an IP address in the 192.168.254.x range. If it is not in this range, you can either set the address to be in this range or set it to obtain an IP address automatically.

The Old Man

Reread it again. You said you can ping so the subnet should not be an issue.

Access the router's config using Hyperterm and issue the command
eth list
and post the results back here.

The Old Man

Indeed gentlemen.

The workstation's IP address is 192.168.1.2, assigned trough a dhcp server of my active dsl-router (EICON DIVA 2440).

The point is that I have to configure the flowpoint router for a friend of mine, and accessing the flowpoint router with TCP/IP is not possible, as described above. Is this the reason ?

The Eicon's IP is 192.168.1.1
The Flowpoint's IP is 192.168.254.254

Any suggestions ? Thank you.

Dave.

David,

Now it is crystal clear. I'm doing a bangup job violating my cardinal rules today. I assumed again that the Flowpoint was a part of your active setup.

Yes, the IP subnet is why you are having this problem.

My suggestion would be:
1. Change the router's IP address to 192.168.1.x via the CLI.
2. Configure the router as needed.
3. Change the router's IP back to 192.168.254.254 via the CLI.

Hope that helps.
The Old Man

2. Change your workstation

Dear friend,

Thank you for your kind advise,

I'll disconnect my workstation form the network, assign a fixed ip address like 192.168.254.20 and work on the flowpoint router, will this do ?

David.

You'll still need a network connection to the flowpoint. Changing the IP as you describe and plugging the computer into the flowpoint should work just fine.

Good luck.
The Old Man

Dear friend.

I did as you told me to do.

I assigned a fixed ip address to the pc 192.168.254.2 + 255.255.255.0, disabled the firewall, can easily ping the router at 192.168.254.254 but cannot reach the gui trough my browser. i still can reach the router trough the console com port1.

anything i did not tried ?

thank you for your kind help.

david.

Use the LanGuard scanner on 192.168.254.254 and verify that the http and SNMP ports are operational. If the http is open but on a port other than 80, such as 8080, point your browser to that port by
If there is no open http port, then try Configuration Manager. That uses ports 161/162.

The Old Man

I have done what you proposed and tried to reach the router targeting specifically the open ports. Still no results. Ping goes, Hypertrm goes, but the GUI is not working... Is there a full factory RESET available on this router ?

Greetings,

david.
