I am running a Windows NT 4.0 network. I added a computer to the network. It is a W2K machine. Went into Network Identification, put in the computer name and the domain name. I can ping the machine from any other machine on the network. But when I go to network neighborhood from any machine, I do not see the machine I added when I search the domain. Any thoughts?

Can you browse the network from the W2K machine? i.e. go to My Network Places > Entire Network > Microsoft Windows Network. Do you see other computers on your domain?

Check the event log of the W2K machine and look for any errors or warnings. If there are some, go to and do a search based on any event ID's you find in the log.

This is just a starting point. Post back with any further information you can asscertain.

Regards,

When I go to the W2K machine I added to the domain, I can see every machine on the domain. But when I go to any other machine on the domain, I cannot see the W2K machine in Network Neighborhood. Yet I can ping the ip address of the W2K machine form any machine on the domain.

Did you actually join the existing NT domain from the new W2K machine?? Did it ask you for a password with authority to add new machines to the domain??

I just went ahead and deleted the computer on the NT server and then re-added it. Work fine now. Darn computers :)

Thanks for the advice.

FYI, it may not have been in the NT Browser list properly (or at all). Usually refreshing the doamin will fix this (purges the cache etc.).
