Hello,
I have a little setup of:
1 Linksys BEFSX41 router configured as a gateway
1 win2k machine
1 win98 machine
1 redhat Linux machine
1 GenToo Linux machine (in process of building it...but that's a different story)
background:
- They all can ping the router and each other.
- They all can access the web (via browser).
- The Win2k machine and Redhat machine have static IPs (192.168.1.100, 192.168.1.102 respectively).
- The win98 machine and GenToo machine use DHCP from the router.
- The router DHCP is enabled and starts at 192.168.1.50.
- My win2k DNS first two entries is my ISP DNS servers, then the last entry is my routers (192.168.1.1).
problem:
- I cannot ping or tracert any address ( name or IP ) outside my network.
- When I ping from my RedHat, (ping it gives me the IP but then says "Packet filtered"
- When I ping from my Win2k (from cmd window using same....ping it gives me "Request Timed Out" but also gives me the IP of yahoo.
- When I ping from my win98 box, it gives me "Destination Net unreachable" and yet again gives me the IP of yahoo.
- When I ping the IP from any of the machines, I get the same responses.
My thoughts:
- I was thinking that the DNS was working properly since the names resolved to an IP address.
- But I'll be darned if I can figure out why I can't ping any external address.
