I am switching all of the computers in my office to a doamin. When I go to each xp machine to declare the domain name, a logon screen comes up. When I enter the user information for the user's computer, it says access denied. so then I enter root, which isn't an account on the user's computer, it logs in to the domain. This also is happening to roaming profiles. Only root is allowed to have a roaming profile. WhAt'S tHe DeAl??

Have you added the users ?
Add User:
# smbpasswd -a [user]
and
Enable the user
# smbpasswd -e [user]
Add User:
# smbpasswd -a [user]
and
Enable the user
# smbpasswd -e [user]

But only an Administrator (root) can add a machine to a domain.
Posting your complete smb.conf file would be a start to getting more help on this problem.

enabling the user didn't help, I have added each user with and encrypted password and each user account also. here's my smb.conf:
