hi experts,

I'm using the ntbackup tool on a Windows 2000 Server.

Trying to back up several SQL Server databases that are ALWAYS open/in-use because this is a web server.

The problem is that ntbackup skips any file that is in-use.

?? Is there a setting/switch in ntbackup that allows it to backup files that are in-use ??

Thanks, John

Nope - and backups taken of SQL Server while it is in use are useless anyway - they can't be restored.

A better option is to arrange for a backup maintenance plan to be done on the SQL Server which will write the backup of SQL Server databases to static files on disk. You can then back these up with NTbackup without any difficulty. Ensure that the backup doesn't kick off until the SQL Backup is finished.

The only way to backuup your SQL database is to have an automated export from SQL to a text file in a subdirectory like X:\SQLEXPORT. Then you have NTBackup back up that directory.

This will be a point in time backup
