I have successfully recorded my voice by computer + Sound Recorder+ microphone in Vista.
However, I fail to record noise from the pipes in my flat, although the noise was more aloud than my voice and I put the microphone very close to the pipe.

Does the noise register as activity in the Sound Recorder Volume Meter?

Does it register if you move the Microphone a bit further away from the pipe noise?

Thank you.

I cannot see anything moving in the Sound Recorder when record the pipe noise or record my voice.

The pipe noise cannot be recorded while my voice can be recorded

you probably will need a more sensitive microphone...

or you may need a different sound recording software, such as Audacity...

Only ask questions with yes/no answers if you want "yes" or "no"

You may need your microphone (the actual component transponder unit) to be in physical contact with the offending noisy pipe - so a bare cheap unshielded microphone may be best - tape the microphone to the pipe so that the vibrations are conducted directly. The noise should then be very loud, and you should then need to reduce the gain on the microphone volume control to record the sound.
