Can not recognize any dos commands

when i access the command mode through the run box in 2000 pro and type any dos command get (ping,ipconfig,ext) is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

I would check the PATHEXT variables (should be set to .COM;.EXE;.BAT;.CMD;.VBS;.VBE;.JS;.JSE;.WSF;.WSH).

Goto Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Environment variables.

thanks ash i have checked that and thats fine the commands i can not use look like regedit,ping,tracert & ipconfig could be more i can change dir and list dir ok any more idears

Are you on a win2k domain? If so and your not the domain admin they may have prevented you from using this commands with group policies.
 
If you go into the WINNT\System32 directory and double click on PING do you still get the error or the ping help message?

yes if i go to the WINNT\System32 directory and double click on PING it does work
