Can not link an Excel table

Good Day All . . .

Using CS2 to build some catalogs. Trying to import tables / sheets from an excel file (saved and closed). When I place the file I never see an indication (in the options box) about linking the file. The table comes in, it contains the data and formatting - but is not linked. I have read the help files and other posts here in the forum and it seems something may not be working right. What am I missing??

Look at preferences/text. You should see a section called Links - create links when placing text and spreadsheet. Click that checkbox.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4
 
Escellent! Worked like a champ. Wonder why that would have been set to "not active". Mine is a fresh install.

That is not on by default (as it was in earlier versions) because many people do not want a link back to the original. It's nice to have the info update when updates are made to the original, but formatting is not saved so that can undo a lot of work.
