i have ran into a problem, which i thought i mastered years ago,,installing a operating system. had troubles running my xp pro, inserted the o/s disk clicked on the first repair option, it asks me for my admin password, when i know for a fact i left blank, have tried many locksmith programs, and still nothing will bypass that option. after many attempts, ran the disk to the second repair feature, the one with the option to reformat, after the second boot, it freezes, and has to be rebooted, and freezes everytime after that in the same spot. i thought taking the old hard drive out and throwing it aside would sidetrack my worries, but the new install either freezes on boot or freezes during installation, i have the original disk and two backup copies of it, in case one gets scratched, but neither one finishes the install, i am running an asus 1800+ motherboard

Try Taking everything out except essential components. Memory (one stick only), Hard drive (one only). CD-ROM drive (also one Only) and see if it will resume the installation.

Check memory for a bad stick.
Replace IDE cables (maybe faulty). Try different CD-ROM.

If after that you are still having problems, check your motherboard for leaking or buldging capacitors.

also check Power Source is providing enough power to all components.

You can also review the Setupapi.log file, the Setupact.log file, and the Setuperr.log file (in the %windir% folder) to try to determine any problems. You might need something like BartPE to access the failed installation.

i finaly got the computer to start, had to replace the power supply, but for the life of me i cant get the computer to run like it used to, it freezes on almost every scan i run, the few completed scans i do manage to get , the xoftspy, the antivirus, the regcure, they all come up with nothing, i dont have internet, but i get the msn to sign on, reinstalling the explorer, rewnewing the ip, nothing seems to work, and it still wont let me format the drive, nor any drive i install, it will freeze on the dos startup. no error messages will pop up, just freeze, any advice will be great, the answer will most likely be simple, but great frustration leads me to pull out my hair than to think clearly right now, :) thankx
