Can not download files from IE 6

When I go to download a file my internet explorer just starts clicking a hundred miles an hour and will not stop until I end task. I just upgraded from IE 5.5 and it did the same thing. I am running windows 2000. I tried downloading under another profile but the same thing happens. Any clues?

Try the repair tool:

Then, try a spyware eliminator such as SpyBot (of course, you'll have to download it on another pc):

Also, you might run on online virus scan for good measure:

I ran spybot, adaware, (my norton coporate edition virus scan), and ie repair. Still doesn't work. This does not happen on every website. But most of them. I can download from MS but not compaq, dell, etc.

Hmmm....disable your Norton for a minute then try a download from a relatively sae site, say Compaq or Dell....

When you say it is "clicking a hundred miles an hour" when you donwload a file, do you mean the speaker makes noise, or it appears that mouse clicks are occuring?
