Having a problem with our Nortel Norstar phone system. It is not allowing us to dial a number in the 662 area code. I contacted our carrier to see if it was something on their end, and the tech logged my attempts to place a call, and noticed that on their end, it appeared that I was just calling a local number (only the first 7 digits dialed showed up).

I did check the extension I was dialing from under 'terminals and sets' to make sure there aren't any kind of restriction filters, and it's set to 00 (no restrictions)

I am not very familiar with this system, I have only learned the basics. Being the only IT person at this facility, and this being the only location with a Nortel phone system, I have no one internally to help with this issue. So any insight you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.

you need to call a tech on this one. Its in the public network of the dialing plan. pretty deep into programming

This is an old UK Norstar instruction guide.

You need to find the routing data withing the Norstar programing section. Are you getting a restriction message from the Norstar system or from your carrier?.

It might not be a Norstar problem?.

Can u dial 661 area code in california???
What about other 600 series area codes
Find it odd that 1 area code is outdialing wrong

6 months until ski season starts...sadly i must resign myself to the warmer weather"this will include a normal 8-5 work day, 5 days a week"

If your Norstar phone isn't displaying restricted call then it's not the system. If your getting some sort of recording about the number not being able to be dialed then it's the carrier.

The issue is in your Public DN Lengths on your PRI. By default, if there is no special entry for local area codes that only require 10 digits, then your system will collect the digits after the seventh digit and process the call.

You can add local area codes (that require only 10 digits) into the Public DN Length and set the value to 10, this will wait for 10 digits when someone dials 9+662-xxx-xxxx and then setup the call to your carrier.

DB,

Thank you very much, that worked!

In case anyone else has this issue, I went to 'System Prgrming', then 'Dialing Plan', then 'Public Network', then 'Pub DN Lengths'. At the prompt 'Show Prefix' I hit the button for ADD. Then entered the area code, and then set the length to 10.
