I have actually run into the problem on several differint machines...I have tried everything. I changed nic, uninstalled and reinstalled nic driver, reset ipconfig, reset internet conection settings, deleted tcp/ip setting and reset, deleted enum in registry and reinstalled, did a surface reinstall of o/s. The only thing that works is to totally reformat system and reinstall everything which is just very time consuming. what else can I try...

Hi,
Your description is a little confusing.

How are you connecting to the internet?

Is it via ICS or some such device as you mention your Network card alot?

You say you have run into the problem on a few machines - What were you doing? What did they have in common?

Thanks.

I connect with a dsl line. My local area network settings are set to automatically detect settings. The computers that I encountered this problem with had nothing in common except that they were in my shop to be repaired (all for differint reasons such as bad hd, bad cdrom, adding virus software, removing viruses etc. etc.) The only thing in common was that formatting and reinstalling o/s fixed the problem. There has to be something I'm missing and an easier way to fix this problem.

Who is your ISP and what type<model> of DSL modem are you using? More than likely it's a setting that needs to be adjusted. Enkrypted
A+
