Hi All
I'm running a Windows 2000 Server (DC) and a Windows 2003 Server that I
installed 3 months ago and have just installed the terminal server on it 3
days ago, means we've never loged into this Terminal Server remotely.
However, when we try to connect (local administrator / domain administrator
/any simple user with admin permissions ) we get the following error :

"To log on to this remote computer, you must have Terminal Server User
Access permissions on this computer. By default, members of the Remote
Desktop Users group have these permissions. If you are no a member of the
Remote Desktop Users group or another group that has these permissions, or
if the Remote Desktop User group does not have these permissions, you must
be granted these permissions manually."

I actually tried many things but in vain.

Any ideas ???

Many thanks in advance

Lavida

On the Local Computere there is a group called "Remote Desktop User". Just add the users you want to grant access to to this group.

Do you want this as a full apllication server or just for remote administration?

Thank you Mike for your reply.

I've actually added all the appropriate users with the convenient permissions to the local "Remote Desktop Users" group, I've also checked that "Remote Desktop" is enabled on the Win2k3 server. Moreover, on “terminal services configuration”, properties of the “rdp-tcp” connection, the permissions tab all the approperiate users are duly setup.

Also, the "allow logon through terminal services" policy in the user rights assignment is filled with my users (computer configuration / Security Setings / Local Policies / User Rights Assignment)

This is driving me crazy

Many thanks again

Start>Programs>Administrative Tools>Terminal Services Configuration>Connections

right-click on RDP-tcp and select properties

click the "Citrix Settings" Tab

"Only allow administrators to create desktop connections" Can you try unticking this check box?

I know, you're not using Citrix, but it's worth trying. What about the Event logs on the server, any funnies there?

If the terminal server is different then the domain server (the server that is home to all your users info) then the problem is that the two servers are not set up to work together. I had this problem and Dell nor myself could figure it out - Dell had to call their source at Microsoft and four days into it that's what they came up with.

If they are the same server it might still be possible the two different roles aren't set to coinside with one another.

Many thanks guys.
I've been told that I need 2003 TS CALs, the ones I have are 2000 TS CALs.
????????

Well you are using WIndows 2003 Terminal services. SO yes you need 2003 TSCALS.

Also you will want to be reading about where to place this licesnse server.

Cheers

I've checked my TS CALS they're 2003, but they're installed on a 2000 server, do I need to install them on a 2003 server??? If yes, how could I desinstall them from the 2000 server and install them on the 2003 server??

Appreciate your help.
