I have setup 8 PC's as a P2P network. However none of the shared resources are accessable via the Network Places icon from any of the PC's i.e. can not browse the network.

I can print to shared printers and access the shared folders on the PCs by manually creating shortcuts using \\server\ at which stage it lists the shared resources on the "server" so I end up with \\server\foldername which I can then save and load files from from via a shortcut created on all the other PCs.

I've installed:

TCP/IP (as they will all eventually use a ADSL modem on the "server". Static IP 10.0.0.1...8 Mask 255.0.0.0 Default Gate: 10.0.0.1

Netbeui

All belong to a common Workgroup

All logon with a single user account created on each PC called user with no password.

Any ideas?

Is Netbios over TCP/IP enabled?
Why have you installed netbeui & tcp/ip? (only need one protocol normally).
If you're going to use ICS to share the internet connection, normal config for that is for cleint machines to pick up IP address automatically - as host machine acts as DHCP server (with its LAN IP address set to 192.168.0.1, subnet 255.255.255.0) when you share the connection - so auto addresses will also be in that range.

I did not change this setting so it is set to its default value. As the site is some distance away I will have to visit to check this setting.

What should it be?

PS Thanks for the ICS tip

Several issues:

. You as wolluf suggested, need to configure your IP correctly for ICS. This will correct the errors your already have in place. (Your subnet mask is woefully incorrect.)
. You need passwords for Microsoft Networking to be enabled. You can set the machines up to automaticly enter a single username and password at logon, but they cannot have empty or no password. Nor can they hit the Esc key or Cancel on startup if a logon prompt is used.

. Under TCP/IP Properties, all clients, set them to obtain an IP address automaticly, and under the Advanced properties, WINS tab disable LMHOSTS and "Enable Netbios over TCP/IP"

. Make sure the Workgroup is identical and the machine names are different.

. Client for Microsoft Networking, File and Printer Sharing installed on all machines.

You will then have your Network Neighborhood populated.
