I have set up a guest account in IIS with the user/pass as guest/guest. However, when I try to log on with that acct in sharepoint, it asks for the domain as well. I do know that sharepoint is using authentication from Active Directory. Could this be the problem with anonymous access? If so, how do I set up a guest account? My boss would like anyone to be able to at least just go to our site and view it without logging in. I have read the M.$. site and that did not help at all.

Thank you in advance!

I still can not get this to work. I have followed the instructions from a nice sharepoint book, the microsoft site, and other areas of this forum. Can anyone please help in this matter? Perhaps step by step instructions?

Thanks again in advance. This forum has been great!

Hello,

In SharePoint have you only enabled anonymous access and chosed what an anonymous user can access?

Have you tried to also allow all authenticated users and putting them as readers?

Regards,
Thomas

Yes, I have allow the entire webpage and authenticated users as readers. It keeps asking for the domain\user and password. This is getting very frustraiting.

Strange.. Are the Sharepoint machines and the users in the same domain? What happens if you add your own Active Directory account as a reader or contributor to sharepoint, does it ask you for your username and password?

In the IIS have you changed the anonymous account from the defualt one? If so, have you added that account to the IIS_WPG group?

Regards,
Thomas

You can disregard my previous post of adding the user to IIS_WPG group, it should not be necesary to add the account for anonymous access to that IIS_WPG group!

I looked at my machine and I looked at the wrong account!
I was looking at the IIS Process Launch built in account.

Only group my anonymous account is a member of is the Guests group

The problem is also that we do not want to add any 'reader' accounts to active directory. And yes, these anonymous people are outside the domain.
