Can not access anything on the Desktop

Hi,

I've win2k pro sp4 and everytime I double on any icons on the desktop, it did not bring up the program, my computer for instance did not come up. It just stay at the desktop screen. Did anyone run into this before? please provide helps.

can you right click on an icon select open?
if it opens this way then somehow the speed of your double click was changed.

Up to date anti-virus and anti-spyware software installed? If not install some (lots of good free ones, like AVG - both anti-virus and anti-spyware - 2 separate apps, Avast, anti-virus, spybot and adaware anti-spyware) and run complete scans.

I'd also run chkdsk c: /f (runs on reboot)

and look in event log - run eventvwr.msc - for clues.

Thanks for all the tips. I do have McAfee but it did not find anything after I ran a complete scan. I'll look in the event log. I do think it is some kind of spyware or worms that causing this. Again, thanks for all your helps.
