have a dlt vs80 scsi drive. is there a way to format the tapes in ms backup. if so how?
i've been hunting on the internet and in wondows and cannot find a way to format the tapes.
the drive was replaced under warranty recently last few days it hasnt backed up. in the event log the first one says unable to write to the tapes bad bock then in the next event it says to clean the drive. we ran the cleaner and would like to try reformatting the tapes.

I think this formats the tape, you'll have to try it.

Open Backup.
The Backup or Restore Wizard starts by default, unless it is disabled.

Click the Advanced Mode link on the Backup or Restore Wizard.
On the Restore and Manage Media tab, click the tape you want to erase.
On the Tools menu, click Media Tools, and then click Mark as free .

erases tapes thanks. just see if it backs up now
