I currently have 1 exchange 5.5 server behind a firebox 2 firewall in 1 site which serves our whole organisation. Is it possible for me to set up another seperate exchange server in a different domain on the other side of a WAN link which only recieves mail intended for those in the new domain, whilst the origional server only picks up mail for those users in its local domain? The idea is to effectively split the site and have 2 seperate mail systems.

Can i do this without a forward from the existing mail server? Or is the only way forward on this to have direct replication between the 2 servers?

Any help or advice gratefully recieved.

If you have 2 seperate FQDN, yes.
Or you can set the 2 servers up to sync.

Hope this Helps

I have a Firebox also. One of my sites lost their connection to the internet and I had to re-route their mail through us to their server. On the firebox, add a route to their mail server and make the gateway the router to their site. Add an SMTP service for their mail server on the firebox and NAT one of your external IP addresses to the internal address of the mail server. If you change the DNS MX and address records for the domain you're trying to route to, to reflect the natted address on the firebox, mail should go through to their server. This worked for me. Hope this helps.
Also, there's a great user forum to post your Firebox questions to via email at 'wg-users@watchguard.com'.
Good luck.
