Hi there, I have one field "Work".where, Work=Number1*100. I wanted to use a formula in the work field but but I could edit as when I go custom field option in "Work" field ,I do not see any option for formula.I could use formula for text1..text20 or date1....Date20.But could not do for Work or Cost.Could you please suggest me.I will appreciate you help.

No, sorry. tThe only fields that can take formulas are the custom fields. You cannot customize the Work or Cost fields.

Yah you are right. There is no way.My boss was asking if I could use VBA to customize those Work or Cost fields.I dont know if I could.Could I?Ahh this project is killing me.Thanks a lot for your help dear.

I suppose you could write to the Work and or Cost fields through VBA - however changing work will change another variable - units or duration - assuming you have resources assigned- so I would approach this with caution. What are you trying to accomplish?

Thank you so much for asking! In my project file I have a column named "estimated complition"(I used Date1 field for this) which I imported from excel. Now I have another column "Finish" field. Now I am asked that the "Finish" field will default to the Date1.But if someone wants can enter other date.baseline is if no value entered on this cell bydefault it will have "Date1" on the cell.

Another one is "Work" Field. I have one column with "Number1" field where I calculated the work hours. Now I am asked to write this number to "Work" Column without pasting. Is there anyway to do it. or He ashed if I could use that formula in "Number1" column directly at "Work" Column.I realized this is not how Msproject supposed to work from your conversation.Could you please suggest.Really appreciate your help.

A couple of things:
In Project you cannot enter both a formula and have the ability to enter data as well. As I mentioned, the only fields you can alter through formulas are the custom fields. However, you could create a formula in a spare text field to compare the dates in the Date1 field to the finish field and then display either the amount of variance or a flag.

Through code you could write the number1 field to the Work field - but you'd need to run the code every time you alter the values.

I know you are working with data from Excel - but at some point you may want to start using Project's ability to calculate data.

You are right I could use a flag.I really like that idea!I am not using excel anymore,I already imported from excel and now all calculation I am diong is in Project file. It could be nice if I could run the code to write number1 in my Work field.I just dont know how I do it.Even if I need to run it every time I alter the value, still it will be a great help.Could you please suggest how i could do that.I really thank you for helpping me out.Thank you thank you.

Hi Julie, thanks a lot.I rally appreciate your help.I will post my question there then. Thanks!
