Can I VPN to the server 1

I have 2 win2k servers. Can I VPN to them, or is Terminal services my only option? Sometimes I feel lazy to walk into the server room.

If you are on the same network, can't you use Remote Desktop ?

If there's a firewall between you and the servers, then you would need to VPN.

Do you mean VNC into them? You would have to download, install and configure the software (

http://www.realvnc.com)

on both the servers and your workstation before you could do this, but yes it is possible. Assuming that's what you're talking about.

You're misusing the term "VPN". A VPN is a virtual private network, it's used to connect to different networks, not to connect to different systems.

You need to use TS or VNC, or some other remote control software. Even if you created a VPN from your desktop to your server, you've only created a private tunnel between the two systems, you still have to use some other piece of software to control the remote system.

It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

ok, thanks for the help. Looks like TS service will not start on either server. I did not bring these server's up so i don't know what they are missing. I guess for now I can just keep walking in there.

Why not try and solve the initial problem instead of finding ways around it.

If you are saying Terminal Services will not start on the Servers, then focus on that problem first. What is the problem you are having on the Server?

Answer that and I will try to help you solve it. I'm sure that once you solve that problem you will have no problem login on to the servers via TS from your desktop.
