Originally, I wanted to use ethernet powerline to hook my Playstation 3 to the internet. But since my PC is next to my PS3, I was wondering if I could use the PC as well since it's next to the PS3. Anybody knows what steps are needed for this?

I was browsing the settings of my network adapter and one option says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power," so I am guessing I can turn off my PC and the adapter keeps working, so that would benefit me when playing on my PS3.

I know nothing about PS3 but I can tell you if your computer is turned off then the wireless network card is also turned off. Wired network cards will stay connected to the network to allow them to listen for a wake up command. If they get this command they will turn back on automatically. I don't think wireless cards do this. But even if they do they will not be able to act as an access point when the computer is turned off.

That setting is more for the opposite reasons. If you have a laptop and the battery is getting low then it will turn off unneeded devices to save power. If you check that box then it allows windows to do this for you.

I'm sure if you messed around with the Ad-hock mode of the network card and some bridge or internet sharing configurations you could get something to work. But the computer would have to stay on to work.

Good luck.

The cost of a wireless AP isn't that great these days (ebay is a wonderful thing :)).

The only problem of ever using a workstation as another type of device (webserver, fileserver, printserver or AP etc) is that to be able to function it needs to be on all the time.

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.
